The Tegethoff lawsuit is going to hang over this year's Shootout like storm clouds, and that's the uncomfortable truth nobody wants to talk about while the jet skis are running and the party's in full swing down at the dam. When millions in project money disappear from something as visible as Lakeport, it doesn't just affect the developers or the lawyers, it affects how people here think about the next big thing somebody wants to build, the next promise about what this place could become. The racing and the restaurants and the new hospice unit at the care center all matter, and they're all real pieces of what keeps this community moving, but they're happening in the shadow of a question that won't go away: where did that money go, and who knew?
