The ambulance district's wage increase and the fire board's talk about upgrading dock infrastructure might seem like separate budget conversations, but they're really the same argument happening in different rooms: people who work on these waters and respond when things go wrong deserve to be paid like they matter. Around here, we've watched EMS and fire services stretch thinner every year while the cost of living climbs and the call volume doesn't drop. You can staff a boat or an ambulance with passion only so long before passion doesn't cover the mortgage. The district and the board are finally acting like they understand that, and the community's better off for it.
