A Kansas man drowned in these waters this week, and by now most of us have seen the headlines and moved on to the next thing. That's the way it goes. But August on the lake always brings a mix of good fortune and bad luck, and this year the ballot's asking us to think about money in ways we haven't before. The tax amendment's getting plenty of attention around here, which makes sense when you're talking about the kind of revenue that keeps our schools and roads moving. Meanwhile somebody's invented something that's supposed to stop waves from tearing up docks, which tells you everything about how serious people take waterfront damage come storm season. Most days we're all just trying to enjoy what we've got out here without losing it to the lake or the legislature.
