Ty's Take
Summer at the lake always brings the same mix—new roller coasters and real estate signs alongside the ambulance calls and traffic accidents that come with season. This week's pair of serious crashes on Ivy Bend and 54 reminds us that while we're all excited about Dragon Run opening at Oasis and showing off those remodeled homes to out-of-state buyers, the roads around here get crowded and unforgiving fast. The fire department's new water rescue boat is a good addition to what's already a stretched response system, but the best rescue is the one that never happens—which means slowing down, keeping your boat properly loaded, and remembering that these two-lane roads weren't built for summer traffic. We can celebrate the lake's draw all we want; just do it alive.
