We've had three accidents in two days across the county—a teenager gone in Laclede, serious injuries on the lake at dawn, another pair hurt down in Miller—and the heat advisory isn't doing anybody any favors when tempers run short and attention spans run shorter. This is the part of summer that wears on people, the stretch where the thermometer stays stubborn and the news gets harder. If you're heading out on the water or hitting the road, slow down. Check your mirrors twice. The lake's unforgiving when people are tired and hot, and these roads don't care how good your reflexes usually are.
