Ty's Take
There's a particular satisfaction in watching a small-town paper do its job well enough that folks outside the county take notice, and the Herald's win for best news website in the state contest this week is exactly that kind of thing. It's easy to overlook what it takes to keep real coverage flowing in a county seat of two thousand, where the newsroom doesn't have the luxury of specialists or deep benches, but this paper finds the stories that matter to people who live here, follows them through, and tells them straight. From the school board's shifting roster to what's happening down at the new branch library to who's suiting up for Friday night, the Herald does the work most of us take for granted until we realize what happens when that work stops. A state-level nod for doing what good journalism looks like in rural Missouri isn't flashy, but around here we know exactly what it's worth.
