Ty's Take

School enrollments dipping a bit here and there across the county is the kind of trend that doesn't make anybody's blood boil on first read, but anybody who's been around long enough knows what it means. Young families moving out looking for work, or staying in place but having fewer kids, or kids aging out while new ones don't come along. It's the quiet math that changes a county over time, whether that's through the prison bringing steady work to Licking or folks commuting north toward Fort Leonard Wood. The schools themselves will manage fine, they always do, but the real story is the one nobody needs to write out loud: Houston and this county are still figuring out what comes next.
