Ty's Take

County commissioners did what they had to do this week, holding the line on the tax rate while everybody knows the bills don't stop coming. Nobody goes into public service to be popular, and keeping the books balanced in a county this size means making choices that satisfy nobody completely. Meanwhile the Houston Educational Foundation is doing the work that tax dollars sometimes can't quite reach, and that August 29th fundraiser at the BARn is worth marking on your calendar if you've got kids in schools around here or just care about what happens to them. The wreck out on Highway BB near Licking earlier this week reminds us again that these county roads don't forgive careless driving, and a man dealing with both charges and injuries is a sharp reminder that some mistakes cost more than money.
