Ty's Take

The Fourth comes early to Houston this year, which means the Grand around the square fills up before lunch and stays that way through the fireworks—that's just how it works when you've got a county the size of Rhode Island and only one real town center. Meanwhile, over in Cabool, somebody's facing charges in an assault that the rest of us will hear about in pieces at the feed store and the diner, the way news travels in places this size, which is to say it travels fast and gets understood slower. Both stories belong in the same paper because both belong to Texas County, one a reminder that we still know how to gather, the other a reminder that we don't always like what we find when we do.
