Ty's Take

Coralie Bailey Carrier passed this week, and that's the kind of name that carries weight in a place like this. The Bulletin ran her notice, and if you've been around the Mesilla Valley long enough, you know what losing someone of her generation means, particularly in these agricultural communities where families go back generations and everybody's connected through church, school, or the land itself. We don't always get the full story in the obits about what someone built or who they helped raise, but the fact that she lived long enough to see this valley change from what it was to what it is now, and that people remember her enough to mark her passing, says something. That's the kind of continuity that keeps a place like Hatch rooted when everything else is shifting.
