Thomas Ocie Williams, who spent most of his life in this valley, passed this week at 89. We don't have much beyond the notice, which is how it goes some days, but anybody who's been around Hatch long enough knows that every name in these columns carried water, planted rows, and kept this place running through the dry years and the wet ones. The chile harvest doesn't stop for funerals, and neither does the work of building a life in farming country. His family knows what they lost. So does this town, whether the full story made it into print or not.
