Thomas Ocie Williams passed this week, and that's the kind of notice that stops you in a small town. You don't need the full obituary to know what it means around here—another person who remembers when things were different, who maybe worked these fields or knew somebody who did, who was part of the fabric that holds a place together whether anybody's paying attention or not. The Hatch Valley loses somebody almost every week, and most weeks we don't say much about it beyond the funeral times and the church. But that's the honest work of a community newspaper, too.
