Ty's Take

Eight years is a long time to wait for answers, and longer still to live in a county where the people sworn to keep the peace end up being the ones you're wondering about. The charges coming down now against former law enforcement in the Tory Sanders case aren't just about what happened that night—they're about whether this community can finally trust that somebody, somewhere, did their job right. That matters more in a place this size than most folks understand. When the sheriff's office is the law, and the law itself becomes the question, it changes how people think about everything else: who they call, what they report, whether they believe the badge still means something. Maybe these charges mean it does.
