Ty's Take

The state park pass program for New Mexico veterans just hit its first birthday, and that's worth noting in a place where a lot of us know someone who served. Free access to our state parks sounds like a small thing until you realize it's one of the few gestures that actually costs the state something and doesn't come with a lot of politics attached. Out here where we've got Fort Bliss to the south and military families scattered across Luna County, a day at Rockhound or City of Rocks doesn't fix anything, but it says something about who we remember when the parades are over.
