Sam Neill's death hits different when you're sitting in a town where a lot of folks grew up watching movies as their ticket out—or at least somewhere else for a couple hours. The man had a long career and a good run, and by all accounts lived it on his own terms, which counts for something. But what sticks with you about the daylight saving time conversation is how it never quite lands the same way twice. Farmers around here have opinions that don't match up with the folks in town, and the border throws its own wrinkle into everything—when you're doing business thirty miles from Mexico, clock time gets complicated fast. We'll probably keep arguing about it every spring while nothing changes, same as always.
