Ty's Take

The Gazette's move to new digs is worth watching, not because anyone cares much where the printing press sits, but because the paper's commitment to staying put matters in a town like this. Regional papers are vanishing across the country, gutted by economics and neglect, and Billings could've easily become another casualty. Instead, the newsroom's planting itself deeper, which sends a signal: somebody still thinks there's business in covering what happens here, from the obits that mark the passage of our neighbors to the kids running cross country on Saturday morning to the dancers at Chief Plenty Coups keeping tradition alive. That kind of steady local coverage doesn't generate headlines. It generates a community that knows itself.
