This town has had a hard week, and the candlelight vigil at Veterans Park shows what we do when the weight gets too heavy to carry alone. A psychiatrist's advice on coping has its place, sure, but there's something that matters more in people gathering in the dark with candles, standing shoulder to shoulder with neighbors they might not have spoken to in months. Tragedy doesn't ask permission before it arrives in Billings, and it doesn't discriminate between neighborhoods or income brackets. The obituaries page tells part of it, the court dockets tell another part, but what matters most right now is that folks are showing up, which is what we've always done out here when somebody needs us to.
