Ty's Take

When a house fire and a shooting happen on the same stretch of street in west Billings, and the airshow crowds are still settling back into their routines downtown, you get a reminder that this city runs on two speeds at once. MetraPark fills with families watching aerobatic teams on a Sunday afternoon while a few miles away firefighters and cops are working scenes that'll change somebody's week permanently. That's not meant as criticism of the good time people had at the airshow, or the folks who turned out for it. It's just the truth about a growing city of 117,000, where the calendar moves fast and the real cost of things doesn't always make the highlight reel. The obituaries today are neighbors. The fires are neighborhoods. The soccer draws are kids chasing something worth chasing. It all matters, and it all happens here.
