Ty's Take
There's a particular kind of tension that settles over a mining town when the union and management can't find ground, and even though the Stillwater Mine operation is up the road in Stillwater County, plenty of folks around here have family punching that clock or know somebody who does. Three rejections and a strike date announced means September's going to feel different for households that depend on that paycheck, and you can't separate that kind of economic pressure from what happens in schools, stores, and church parking lots. The reminder about bear awareness this month is almost quaint by comparison, though worth heeding, but it's harder to stay alert to what's moving through the high country when you're worried about what's moving through your checking account. We'll be watching how this settles.
