Summer's hanging on by its fingernails around here, and there's plenty of work left to do before the season fully turns. The county fair wrapped up another good sale, the farmers market keeps running Fridays through mid-September, and if you've got kids, you know the pool days are numbered now. But underneath the regular rhythms, there's real friction building. That sheep feedlot petition, the mine negotiations still going nowhere, and the weather that nobody can quite figure out are all reminders that things don't run smooth just because we want them to. This is cattle and sheep country, and when the economy gets tight and the sky keeps throwing curveballs, people start pulling in different directions. Worth watching how the next few weeks play out.
