Any rancher will tell you these three things don't sit separate from each other, they're all part of the same pressure that's been building on this country for twenty years. We've got fewer animals to sell, wildlife that won't stay put, and a philosophy shifting toward letting states handle what used to be managed from Washington. None of it gets easier by pretending the dots don't connect. The real question isn't whether the federal government should step back, it's whether the state and the counties have the budget, the staff, and the will to do what comes next when nobody else will.
