Ty's Take
County fair season's here, which means the whole valley stops what it's doing for a week and remembers why we stay put in Sweet Grass County. You'll see the same families working the same booths their parents worked, kids showing cattle they've been feeding since spring, and enough roasted corn and pie to make you forget about the drought for a few hours. Over in Harlowton the music project's bringing in some real talent—Uncle Lucius and the rest of that lineup—which tells you something about how folks around here are starting to push back against the notion that you have to leave to find decent culture. And then you've got a couple of centenarians still out giving rides, still showing up, still part of the fabric. That's the story of this valley right there: people who work, people who show up, people who know that community isn't something you talk about—it's something you do.
