Ty's Take

The Milwaukee Bridge finally got the green light, which means somebody upstairs believes we can actually fix what's been crumbling over the Yellowstone for the better part of a decade. July 16 bid solicitation puts this thing maybe a year out from actual construction, give or take the usual delays, and that's good news for anybody who's watched that span deteriorate while the county and state played paperwork tag. Most folks won't see this as the big story it is—it's not glamorous, not controversial—but a bridge that works is infrastructure that works, and out here you either maintain what you've got or you watch your town get smaller. The BNSF runs through here, the ranches depend on these roads, and when you're talking about a piece of county connective tissue this old, getting it across the finish line matters more than most things that make the front page.
