A man from Alamosa running hot enough to trigger a high-speed chase and a SWAT response, a yearling bear pushed down from the high country by drought looking for anything to eat, and CPW closing off stretches of the Rio Grande to let what fish are left have a fighting chance. Any one of those would be a sign of trouble in the valley. All three in the same week tells you something worth paying attention to. The stress points are starting to show, whether it's the kind that comes from desperation or from a land that's running dry. Meantime the Golden Circle of Champions reminded us Saturday that this valley still knows how to gather for something that matters, and the Board of Commissioners put DA term limits to a vote come November. Some days the small news is what holds things together.
