Ty's Take
The drought's got teeth this year, and you can see them everywhere from Creede to here. A yearling bear working through town trash, voluntary fishing closures on stretches of the Rio Grande that folks depend on, and the kind of pressure on water that makes you understand why our grandfathers fought so hard over water rights along the Conejos. It's the same story playing out across the valley and down into New Mexico, where the heat doesn't quit and the snowpack never came the way it should have. When the land gets thirsty like this, everything else becomes secondary, and that includes the luxury of leaving fish alone in their pools.
