Ty's Take
Primary season came early this year, and the numbers rolling in from Conejos County tell you something about where people's heads are right now. Turnout matters more than any single name on a ballot, and around here voters tend to show up when they feel like something's at stake. Meanwhile the Forest Service is heading to Del Norte next month to talk winter recreation, which is code for figuring out who gets to do what up in the high country, and that's never a simple conversation in a place where grazing rights and snowmobile trails and hunting seasons all compete for the same piece of land. Then you've got the La Sierra fence situation finally getting some science behind it after all the back and forth, which is how these things usually get settled around here, not with shouting but with data and time and the slow understanding that neighbors have to keep living next to each other.
