Ty's Take

When a yearling bear wanders into Creede looking for water and food, it's a sign the whole valley's feeling the squeeze. The drought that's been tightening its grip on the San Luis Valley shows up in a lot of ways, most of them invisible until something like this forces our hand. Colorado Parks and Wildlife closing stretches of the Rio Grande to fishing is the kind of thing that stings around here, where folks depend on those waters and respect them enough to step back when they're told to. It's voluntary for now, which means it works only if people mean it. The bear's not the problem. The problem is we're all competing for what's running lower every year, and that requires honesty from all of us.
