The primary results are in, the forest service is coming to talk about winter use up in the high country, and down in La Sierra the fence question that's been chewing on neighbors for two years finally has some wildlife data to work with. Slow news cycle, maybe, but it's the kind of week where the real business of Conejos County gets done without much fanfare, the way things tend to work around here. Elections matter. Water and land use matter more. These three stories, stacked together, are just the machinery of a place trying to figure out what it wants to be and how to live on it, which is the only story that ever really lasts in country like this.
