Fire season's arriving early in the high country again, and the Schrader Creek burn near Del Norte is a reminder that these late springs don't mean we're out of the woods. Nine acres doesn't sound like much until you're the one watching smoke column up from the Rio Grande National Forest, and until you remember that water's already tight around here without the silt and runoff trouble that comes after. Meanwhile, down in the valley, South Fork's taking a serious look at data centers, which is the kind of conversation you see spreading through rural Colorado these days. Land's valuable, power lines exist, and towns are hungry. Worth watching to see what kind of deal makes sense, or doesn't, once folks start asking the real questions about water and roads and what it actually costs to host the internet out here where the Conejos River's got prior claims on almost everything.
