Ty's Take
The commissioners meeting Monday on DA term limits won't make headlines much beyond county lines, but it's the kind of thing that matters more the smaller your town gets—when everybody knows the prosecutor, when you've seen the same faces run the same offices long enough to watch their kids grow up. Fire restrictions are already in place across most of the valley, which this early in the season tells you something about what we're heading into, and anybody who's lived here long enough knows that dry year plus summer winds plus tourists who don't know better equals a hard four months ahead. Between all that and a shooting over in Alamosa County, it's the kind of week that reminds you the San Luis Valley moves to its own rhythm, closer to what's happening down in Chama and Rio Arriba than to what Denver's worried about.
