The search for Maria Gutierrez ended the way most of them do down here—someone spotted her car off a back road, or a neighbor checked a place everybody should have checked first, or she turned up at a cousin's place in Chama and the story just quietly closed itself. We don't get many happy endings in missing person cases, and when we do, the whole valley seems to exhale at once. Her family's been living in that fog for days now, and Conejos County pulled together the way it always does when one of our own goes missing. Glad to report she's found.
