Ty's Take

Bears don't usually make the news around here unless somebody's trash cans look like a buffet line, but five of them settling in town is worth taking seriously. Colorado Parks and Wildlife putting out that warning means they're not just passing through the valley on their way somewhere else, they're finding what they need right here in Alamosa. The seasonal outdoor report came out the same week, which is fitting, because it's a reminder that we live in country where the wild and the settled don't have much buffer between them. Keep your garbage locked up, don't leave pet food out, and if you see one, give it room. These mountains have been here longer than the town, and the bears know it.
