Ty's Take
Retirements and transitions hit different in a valley this size, especially when they involve people who've spent decades steward of the land and folks running our schools. We're losing a district ranger who knows every drainage and ridge in Saguache country, which matters more than folks realize when fire season comes or when water questions get tangled up with forest management. Meanwhile, the attendance numbers coming out of our schools tell us something we probably already know but don't like to say out loud: keeping kids in the classroom is harder work than just opening the doors. That's where good people make a difference, the kind who stay long enough to be woven into the fabric of a place. Sounds like we've got some of that here, and we're about to lose some of it too.
