Friday night lights are still a few weeks out, but the fall camps are running now and you can already see which teams have something cooking and which ones are rebuilding. Alamosa High's got some solid skill positions this year, and over in Monte Vista they're talking about a deeper defensive line than they've had in a spell. The real story, though, isn't who wins district come October. It's that these young people are out there grinding through late August heat at 7,600 feet, when most kids their age are sleeping in and playing video games. That kind of commitment still means something in a valley like ours, and it shows up in more places than just the scoreboard.
