When a man spends thirty years showing up for kids who aren't his own, teaching them to think, to read, to believe they belong somewhere in this world, you don't let that pass without saying something. The valley's losing somebody who understood that Adams State isn't just a collection of buildings on the north side of town, it's the reason half the families around here have a shot at something better than their parents had. That kind of work doesn't make headlines until the day it stops, and then everybody remembers at once what they're missing.
