Ty's Take
Matt Abbey's got his work cut out for him as the new economic development director, and that's before you factor in what every growing town in the San Luis Valley knows: water. The timing matters here, especially with Adams State jumping into that Water Fellows Program and the university essentially saying yes to the hard conversations about what development means when you're sitting in a valley where every drop of the Rio Grande gets fought over three times before it reaches your fields. Abbey's predecessor left real work on the table. The question now is whether Alamosa can grow without becoming the kind of place that forgets it sits on somebody else's water rights, and whether economic development means something different when you're at 7,500 feet in a high desert with a finite resource. That's the job nobody advertises in the posting.
