The city council moved fast on this one, and they had to. Once word got out that tech companies were sniffing around the valley for places to park their server farms and battery operations, people started doing the math on power consumption and water use, and the questions got loud pretty quick. A year to figure out what we actually want here makes sense, because it's not a small thing to decide. Alamosa's already stretched thin on water in a region where every drop of the Rio Grande is spoken for three times over, and the last thing we need is another player in that game. The moratorium gives us breathing room to ask whether we're a college town anchored to agriculture and tourism, or whether we're becoming something else entirely.

Alamosa places 1-year moratorium on data centers, large battery storage systems
