The water trial wrapping up this week is the kind of story that doesn't make the evening news anywhere else, but here in the valley it's the story that matters most—because when the lawyers finally pack it in, somebody's got to live with what the judge decides about who gets what flows down the Rio Grande. Meanwhile, the rest of us are doing what we do: the farmer out in the field, the quilter with her needle, the pickleball league getting ready to swing into summer. That's the San Luis Valley in July—watching the courts while life keeps moving forward, because it has to.
