Ty's Take
Two newsrooms becoming one is the kind of consolidation story you see playing out across small-town Colorado, and it stings a little even when it makes sense on the balance sheet. The Valley Courier and the SLV Journal are merging into a regional publication, which means fewer mastheads covering the same ground we've always covered—water fights, school board meetings, who's running for county commission. But here's what matters: somebody's still showing up to take notes. In a valley where infrastructure creaks (that bridge on East Alamosa didn't fix itself), where superintendent searches matter because they shape what our kids learn, and where the power can go out and leave you in the dark at 11,000 feet, having a newsroom that can still ask the hard questions is worth more than the romantic idea of competing papers. The consolidation is real. The work goes on.
