Ty's Take
A couple of world-class athletes came through our backyard last week, and while the headlines landed up in Ruidoso where the actual race ran, the ripple effect matters down here too. When XTERRA puts on a show that draws serious competitors and serious crowds, it reminds everyone in this basin that we're sitting in terrain people will travel for, and that counts for something beyond the usual military paycheck and tourist season. The harder question, though, is whether we're building anything that lasts once the dust settles and the championship t-shirts get packed away. Water, roads, and a real economy that doesn't hinge on one event or one employer are what actually hold a place together, and that's the conversation worth having while people are still paying attention.
