Ty's Take
The XTERRA crowd rolling through town this week, most of them lean and hungry and used to pushing their bodies past what normal folks think is reasonable, reminds you something about Alamogordo that doesn't always make the papers. We're a town built on speed and ambition, from the missile range to the air base to the space museum, and it turns out that appetite for testing limits, for seeing what's possible, runs through the whole place like water through the Tularosa. Even our pool needs replacing because we wear things out here trying to make use of them. The real story isn't whether the triathletes are fast or whether the city council gets the bids right. It's that Alamogordo keeps finding new ways to say what it's always been saying: we do hard things.
