Ty's Take

Fair week's done and the dust is settling, which means we can stop pretending the county's divided between the folks who showed up and the ones who didn't. A rodeo still tells you who cares about keeping the old ways alive around here, and this year the usual suspects were out there proving they've still got the skills their grandfathers taught them. Meanwhile up in Ruidoso the college teams are gearing up for their home schedule, which is its own kind of hometown pride, the kind that doesn't rope cattle but fills bleachers. Otero County's got room for both, though you might notice they don't often cross paths. That's not a complaint, just how it is when you're straddling ranching country and the mountain communities. Both matter. Both keep showing up.
