Ty's Take
Fire safety doesn't make the news until it's too late, which is why what the volunteers did up in High Rolls matters more than it might look on the surface. Out in those foothills where the Sacramento Mountains climb up and the trees get thick, fire moves different than it does down here on the basin floor, and people who live that far out know they're on their own for those first critical minutes. The fact that somebody organized those folks to walk the community, check clearances, talk through evacuation routes, means some family might actually make it out when the next dry summer comes knocking. That's not bureaucracy. That's neighbors doing the work that keeps neighbors alive.
