Ty's Take

James Ethington was the kind of man who understood that a small town runs on people showing up, and he showed up for decades. Whether it was the guitar he played or the words he wrote, he left fingerprints all over Alamogordo, the sort that don't fade when someone passes. The obits this week remind us that family and faith are usually what's really holding a place together, not the headlines or the base payroll or any of the bigger machinery we spend our time tracking. Life here moves at a certain pace, and loss like this settles into it the way it always does, changing the rhythm a little. We'll see his name come up in stories for years, and that's exactly how a life well-lived stays alive in a town this size.
