A woman turns a hundred and her life's work was teaching kids, a young man's earned a scholarship to UNM, and the city pumped the brakes on tearing down Sunspot before somebody figured out what it's actually worth. That's the kind of week that reminds you why these small towns hold together at all, even when the bigger forces around here (the base, the range, the space business) are pulling everybody in different directions. We've got people here who've spent their whole lives building something that lasts, and we've got young people heading out to make names for themselves using what they learned here. The hard part is keeping enough of them around to make it stick.
