The streetlights downtown have been out for weeks now, and nobody seems to know exactly when they'll come back on. Could be a contractor issue, could be the city budget, could be both. What strikes you when you drive past the closed storefronts after dark is how little it matters to the people still running businesses here. They've got their own lights on. They know their customers. This is a town that's used to making do without much fanfare, without waiting for somebody else to flip the switch. That's not an excuse for letting the infrastructure slide, but it's also not the crisis some places would be making it out to be. Alamogordo's got bigger things to worry about than streetlights, and the people here know the difference between a problem and a real one.
