Fishing season's here and the word's out that the high country streams are running cold and clear, which means the next few weeks will see a steady parade of folks heading up toward the Sacramento peaks with fly rods and coolers. That's fine by us, and it keeps the local shops turning over tackle and gas, but it's worth remembering that every angler pulling a nice trout out of those waters is using water that somebody else in this basin might have claims on. The ranchers know it, the municipalities know it, and anybody paying attention to what happens with snowmelt and irrigation rights around here knows it too. For now, enjoy the blue skies and the cold streams. Just don't mistake a good season for abundance.

Fresquez, Casaus newest members of ENMU-Ruidoso rodeo team
Savannah Fresquez of Bernalillo and Marcos Antonio Casaus of Cuba have signed letters of intent to join the College Rodeo team at ENMU-Ruidoso as members of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. Both young athletes recently committed to compete for the university's rodeo program.
