Ty's Take

The Sacramento Mountains are running cold and clear this time of year, which means the creeks up there are doing what they're supposed to do—holding fish that actually want to bite. Word is the upper reaches around Cloudcroft are putting out some decent numbers, and that matters more than it might sound, because every angler who's out there chasing trout instead of sitting in town is one less person worried about the usual arguments. Water rights, growth, who gets what from where—none of that disappears, but there's something about a trout stream that lets a person step outside the fight for a while and remember why we're all still here in the first place.
