Ty's Take
The Barela case is done now, and that's probably the right outcome, but it leaves a question that won't quit: how did we get to a place where a sitting official ends up fighting the state all the way to the Supreme Court and still loses? These things don't happen in a vacuum—they happen because somebody saw a problem and decided it mattered enough to push it, and somebody else decided it didn't. What we're left with is a town that's been through the wringer on this one, a decision that's final, and the harder work of figuring out what happens next and whether the systems we count on are actually working the way they're supposed to.
