Ty's Take
The holiday weekend toll reads like a ledger nobody wants to keep—nine dead on the highways, three in the water, two teenagers hurt Sunday night, a woman thrown from a UTV, a man pulled from the Current River. The numbers stack up faster than we like to admit in a region where people drive hard roads to get where they're going and recreation means pushing a little closer to the edge. This is the time of year when we lose folks, and not all of them to age or illness. Worth remembering, next time the Fourth comes around, that getting there and getting back matters more than how fast you make the trip.
